Freda Mary Madden

December 16, 1913 - January 26, 2010

Freda M. Madden

Freda Mary Madden, 96, of Spring Green, Wisconsin died of natural causes on January 26.

Freda spent most of her life in Freeport, Illinois, where she was born on December 16, 1913 to Clarence W. Geiger Sr. and Minnie M. Spitler. She was a graduate of Freeport High School. She was a 50-year member of the Second Presbyterian Church (now United Presbyterian), where she served as an ordained elder, deacon and a Sunday school teacher.

After raising two children, Mrs. Madden returned to the workplace and retired from the Crum and Foster Insurance Company in 1974.

Active in the community, Freda volunteered at the South Side School for Exceptional Children and at Freeport Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed being a homemaker, and was a Den Mother and Brownie Leader during the time her children were growing up.

Freda made many of the clothes that her children wore – sewing and crocheting were life-long pursuits. She was also a voracious reader. Mrs. Madden also enjoyed traveling, whether it was to other countries, or visiting her friends and many offspring.

Her husband of 63 years, Robert West Madden, and all of her five siblings preceded Mrs. Madden in death. Survivors include daughter Marianne (Maya) Kay Madden of Lone Rock, Wisconsin; son Robert West Madden Jr. of Stevensville, Maryland; grandsons Gerald Dryer and Andrew Dryer; granddaughters Linda C. Benjamin, Tiffany M. Snowden, Brooke J. McCloskey and Page R. Mills; great granddaughters Virginia L. Tjaden, Amber M. Benjamin, Nicole R. Benjamin, Delaney S. Snowden, Riley E. Snowden, Lily X.
