Thelma L. Giuffre, 88 of Freeport died Tuesday January 26, 2010 at her home. Born October 7, 1921 in Freeport she was the daughter of George and Emma (Ward) Yoder. She and Anthony “Tony” Giuffre were married Aug. 3, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa. She and her husband owned and operated Giuffre grocery for many years. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She was a kind and loving mother who enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Jacoby, Jean (Willy) Alber and Marilyn (Gene) Evans, all of Freeport; two sons Tony (Rita) Giuffre of Eddyville, and Thomas (Nancy) Giuffre of Freeport; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, four sisters and five brothers. Friends may call Sunday from 2 pm until 5pm at Walker Mortuary with a Scripture service beginning a 2pm. A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Funeral Information

Funeral Mass will be held Monday 10:30 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with the Reverend Manny Recera officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum.
