Nevin E. Best, 85, of Lake Summerset died Thursday January 21, 2010 at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford. Born December 12, 1924 in Durand Township he was the son of Oscar and Esther (Brinker) Best. He and Marjorie “Marge” Price were married on May 6, 1995. Nevin was a graduate of Durand High School, Veteran of the United States Army, American Legion Gold Star Post #676 in Durand, Lake Summerset Square Dance Club and Durand United Methodist Church. He worked at WREX TV as building and grounds maintenance. He enjoyed gardening, square dancing and spending time with his grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.
Surviving are his wife Marjorie “Marge” Best of Lake Summerset, Davis; three daughters Denise (Craig) Mutchler of Lake Summerset, Michelle (Dan) Sturtevant of Freeport, Annette (Jeff) Blascoe of Pecatonica; three grandchildren Ryan Mutchler, Jordan Mutchler and Nik Blascoe; one brother Sheldon Best of Rockford; one sister Leone Deckard of Rockford and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Lowell, Shirl and sister Retta.

Funeral Information

Visitation will be Monday from 4pm until 7pm at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota and Tuesday from 9:30 am until time of service at Church. Funeral service will be held Tuesday 10:30 am at the Durand United Methodist Church with the Reverend Henry Whang officiating. Burial will follow at the Durand Cemetery with Military Honors.
