Alberta A. Hess , age 93 of Freeport, IL passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018. She was born on October 19, 1925 in Bay City, MI, the daughter of the late Walter and Minnie (Hoppe) Fischer. Alberta married Albert Hess on December 21, 1946. Albert passed away on May 19, 1987.

She attended Bay City Schools through the 12 ^th grade. After graduating, she traveled to Minnesota to learn how to operate a teletype machine at an airline and aviation technical school. She then moved to Ogden, UT to work at Ogden Air Deport, which later became Hill Air Force Base. She worked in an air tower sending and receiving airplane messages, this is where she met her husband Albert. Alberta was confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church in Bay City and was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Freeport where she was very active in the Fidelis Circle.

She is survived by her son, Larry Hess of Roscoe, IL; grandchildren, Justin Hess of Roscoe, Lindsay Hess of Gilbert, AZ, and Jeremy Hess of South Beloit, IL; Brother, Bob (Nancy) Fischer of Bay City, MI; and sister, Joanne Clapp of Farwell, MI. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; and sisters, Delores Reed and Marlene Wilson.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7 ^th at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freeport, IL with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. A memorial fund has been established in her name. Condolences may be shared at www.walkermortuary.com.
