Alberta R. Wells, 97, of Freeport passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Manor Court of Freeport. Born July 18, 1914 in Preston, MN she was the daughter of Herman and Amanda (Broadwater) Dornink. After graduating in 1931 from Dakota High School, she went to work for Woman's World Magazine in Mt. Morris. On August 24, 1935 Alberta married Lester J. Wells. They farmed together in the Dakota area for many years prior to moving to Freeport and later Cedarville. She was an employee of Dr. Ransom Dinges of Orangeville and Dr. M. Miller of Freeport. In later years she worked part-time at Ruhl's store in Freeport. She was a charter member of Indian Grove Country Church. Other memberships included Ladies of the Elks and Freeport Garden Club. She is survived by 3 sons, Gary (Jeanne) Wells of Dakota, Joel (Nancy) Wells of Davis and Dennis (Karen) Wells of Dakota; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and one step great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and one great-great granddaughter.
