Alice C. Wise, 96, formerly of Freeport, IL, died Friday, July 27, 2007 at P.A. Peterson Center of Health, Rockford, IL. A daughter of Louis and Amelia (Regez) Becker, she was born July 28, 1910 and grew up in the Monroe, WI area.
Alice was employed at Parker Pen, Janesville, WI for 18 years; stating that even during the depression "The Pen didn't lay folks off; you might just work 8 hours a week, but you knew you would always get some hours." She retired and married Brewster M. Wise in 1944 in Freeport, IL where together they raised 3 children; Steven, Barbara and John. Alice was a skilled seamstress, knitter, and crotchetier; she loved to read. Alice had 4 wonderful siblings and loved to visit with them and their families. She valued her nieces and nephews as good friends. In 1981 her son John was killed in a car accident, her husband Brewster died in 1986, and in 1996, her daughter Barbara passed away in Washington D.C. Alice was a loving and entertaining Grandma to David Wise and Sunny (Torry) Williams and Troy Froemming and later a great-grandma to Torry Clarence Williams and Spencer David Wise.
Alice came to Christ late in life, but with many questions and conversations was blessed to know her Lord. She will be missed by her surviving son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jennifer (Breed) Wise, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her brother and wife (Eddie and Kathryn Becker), all her extended Becker, Offenheiser, and Campion families, and friends. A special thank you to all the nurses and staff at P.A. Peterson Center of Health and Unity Hospice of Western Illinois. We have wonderful memories of Alice and were blessed to have her in our lives.
