Obituary

Althea Hornung, age 93, of Cedarville, IL, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024.  She was born July 30, 1931, in Freeport, Illinois to Arthur and Mabel Oswalt.

In 1949 she met Dick Hornung, the 'love of her life" at the Freeport movie theater.  She worked as an usher there.  Dick came to see a movie with his friends.  One night she left work late and missed the city bus.  Dick was there so he drove her home.  After that, he showed up whenever she worked to drive her home.  They were married that year on December 9, 1949.

Althea worked for Micro Switch for over 30 years, retiring in 1984.  After retiring, her and Dick spent many years traveling across the country and camping.  They visited almost all of the states with various family members.  She was a member of Zion church.

She is survived by one sister, Mildred Hunter and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Richard "Dick" Hornung; infant son, David Lee; sisters, Marion Hansen, Betty Mellentine and Lorraine Hornung.

There will be a visitation on Monday, January 22, 2024 beginning at 10am at Walker Mortuary.  A service will immediately follow at 11am also at Walker Mortuary.  Her final resting place will be next to her husband at Grandview Cemetery.  A memorial has been established in her name for Parkview Memory Care Activities Department and the Friends Forever Humane Society.
