Obituary

Ami Lynne (Wells) Vautsmeier – November 22, 1975 to July 2, 2025

Ami was born in Escondido, CA, to Jeffrey Wells and Penney (Jablonsky) Burke. Ami's family relocated to Illinois where she attended grade schools in Rock Falls, Sterling, and Dixon. She graduated from DHS in 1993 before heading to Indiana to study at Ivy Tech Community College. Ami had a big, beautiful smile and always maintained a positive attitude. She could really light up the room and she was always a joy to be around.

Ami eventually moved to Freeport, IL, where she started a successful career and fell in love with her beloved husband, David Vautsmeier. Together, Ami and Dave carried out their nearly 27-year marriage, living life to the fullest. They enjoyed countless adventures on UTV's, motorcycles, and snowmobiles, building a large circle of loving family and friends. Ami enjoyed crafting art and clothing, and she was also a dog-mom to several dogs, including her two-year-old pit bull, Lexi. Ami's amazing smile, spirit, and grace impacted everyone she met.

Ami was just as loyal in her career as she was in marriage. Ami served Sentry Insurance for over 27 years, across multiple acquisitions. Ami was an inspiration to her Sentry colleagues and always felt that she was a part of an even larger family there, her 'Sentry Support Squad'. Loyalty was a two-way street, as Sentry Insurance remained equally loyal to Ami, supporting her throughout her four-year battle with cancer.

Family was always a priority in Ami's life. Ami is survived by her mother Penney (John) Burke, her brother and sister-in-law, Todd and Amber Wells, and her nephews Sage (Dani) Adcock and Brody Wells; sister, Jennifer Wells-Bee and her three children; stepsiblings, Steve (Tina) Burke, Keith (Angela) Burke, and Dean Nelson. Ami is also survived by aunts and many cousins, including her great-niece Avery (Sage and Dani) Adcock. Ami's life circle also included her in-laws, all of whom she loved dearly.

Ami was preceded in death by her father Jeff (Chris) Wells; paternal grandparents, Dr. Lamar and Ethel (Trotter) Wells; maternal grandparents, Steve and Virginia (Schmidt) Jablonsky; paternal aunt, Susan (Etnyre) Bonales; maternal uncle, Tim (Becky) Jablonsky; and paternal cousin, Michael Ramage.

A Celebration of Ami's Life will be held from 1-4pm on August 2nd at Rt. 20 Bar & Grill in Freeport, IL.  Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial contributions can be dedicated in Ami's name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org.
