Anna Mae Diffenbaugh , aged 83, passed away on October 13, 2023 at Parkview Home in Freeport, IL.

Born June 15, 1940 in Freeport, she was the daughter of Albert and Clara (Schlamp) Oppold.

She was a 1959 graduate of Aquin High School. She married Donald W. Diffenbaugh on September 10, 1960 in Freeport. He died in 2005. Ann was employed by Micro Switch for many years, retiring in 2000. She was a long-time member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church.

Ann was a great lover of animals, including horses, and especially her last cat, Sylvester. She enjoyed long walks, and was an avid reader. She volunteered for many different causes, always willing to lend a helping hand. Ann was outspoken, loyal and honest. She taught us the value of hard work, financial responsibility and how to keep a clean house.

Ann is survived by her five children: Karen (Kenneth) Jacobs of Janesville, WI. Sharon Lowary and Daniel Diffenbaugh of Freeport, IL. Tammy Diffenbaugh of Dubuque, IA. Terri (Ray) Comerford of Queensland, Australia. Eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and by her great-granddaughter, Isabel Mae Smith; brothers, Charles Oppold and William Oppold; and sister, Mary Ann Shelly.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of her many wonderful caregivers. She will be missed by all who knew her.
