Rock City – Annabelle (Maize) Welling of Rock City passed on to be with her Lord and Savior at age 90 on August 2, 2026.
She was born August 2, 1936 on the family farm in rural Dakota. She was the 5th out of 9 children of Donald and Emma (Tammling) Maize. She graduated from Dakota High School in 1954. She then married her high school sweetheart, Donald Welling on March 4, 1955 at Winneshiek Church.
Annabelle was active with the Dakota Big 4 4-H club, Home Extension Advisor, Stephenson Co Farm Bureau, Tri-State Breeders and Holstein Fresian Association. She was also an active member of Winneshiek Church, and held various office positions and she sang with different groups within the church.
She was a loving wife, dedicated mother and grandmother who loved cooking, baking, crafts and playing games. She frequently attended various Dakota Indian sporting events.
Annabelle was a loving mother to Jeffrey Welling of Chadwick, Deborah (Rey) Mercado of Burbank, Il; David (LuAnn) Welling of Albany, WI, Lisa (Barry) Euler of Pearl City. She was a grandmother to Cody, Brian and Derek Welling, Bryanna Euler, Hannah Hoffman, and Gunnar Euler. A Great Grandmother to Grayson, Gannon and Ford. Also, many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her brother, Lyle (Deborah) Maize and sisters-in-law, Marcia Maize and Linda Maize.
Annabelle is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Emma Maize, her husband, Donald Welling, Sisters, Florence Fawver, Deloris Martz, Pauline Sager and Carol Contardi; Brothers, Lawrence Maize, Jerry Maize and Delmar Maize as well as her in-laws, Merrill and Elsie Welling.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 4-7pm at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home. On August 8th at the Winneshiek Evangelical Free Church there will be an additional visitation held beginning at 10am followed by a service at the church at 11am. A luncheon will follow the service.
Her final resting place will be at Dakota Cemetery, next to Donald. A memorial has been established in her name for the Winneshiek Evangelical Free Church. Condolences can be shared with the family at www.walkermortuary.com. The family was assisted by Daughenbaugh Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
