Anson Green Jr., age 88 of Freeport, IL, loving son, husband, and father died Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Rockford Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born February 17, 1928 in Freeport, IL to the late Anson C. and Irene (Coon) Green. He married Loretta Graf on July 9, 1954; she died January 2, 2001.
Anson lived and worked most of his life in Northwest Illinois. As a young adult he was a member of the local archery club. He would bow hunt in Wisconsin and compete in archery events in his younger years. He was a lifetime member of the United Presbyterian Church. He was also an active elder and committee man of this church. He also volunteered with the delivery of the meals on wheels to the shut-ins of Freeport. He was active in Indian Guides and Cub Scouts with his sons, and also Boy Scouts as a youth and as an adult advisor.
Anson was a good man who was a friend to everyone and always wanted to try and help. After moving from his own home in retirement, Anson tried to stay busy by helping his sons with their home remodeling projects. He will truly be missed by his friends, relatives, neighbors at the Lincoln Towers, and his son.
He is survived by his son, Anson A. Green of Cedarville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Loretta; eldest son, Arno A. Green; aunts & uncles; and In-laws.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A remembrance visitation will be held Friday, November 25th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the United Presbyterian Church in Freeport. The memorial service will be Saturday, November 26th at 11:00 am also at the church. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport
