Freeport- Anthony "Tony" T. Giuffre, 87 of Freeport died Sunday June 6, 2004 at FHN Memorial Hospital. He was born December 10, 1916, in Freeport to Santo and Margaret (Belfiore) Giuffre. He and Thelma Yoder were married August 3, 1939 in Clinton, IA.
He owned and operated Giuffre grocery and meats for many years prior to working as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service.
He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and former member of the Sacred Hearts Society.
He is survived by his wife, of Freeport, 3 daughters Nancy Jacoby , Jean (Willy) Alber, Marilyn (Gene) Evans all of Freeport; 2 sons Tony (Rita) Giuffre of Eddyville, Thomas (Nancy) Giuffre of Freeport; 13 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, 3 sisters Rosie, Josephine, Lucy and 3 brothers Santo, Jim and Sam.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5pm until 8pm at Walker Mortuary with a scripture service at 5pm.
Funeral mass will be held 10:30 am Wednesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with the Reverend John Cahill officiating.
Burial will be in the Oakland cemetery and Mausoleum.
A memorial has been established in his name.
