Anthony J. Spinoso, 91, of Freeport, formerly of Savanna, died Friday, February 20, 2015, surrounded by his family at Manor Court in Freeport. Born January 27, 1924 in Savanna, he was the son of Peter and Jean (Grippando) Spinoso. He married Carolyn Tyson March 2, 1946 and she died December 14, 1979. He married Genelda Nadig July 25, 1981 and she died July 27, 2013. His parents were immigrants from Sicily arriving early in the 1920s. He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran. Anthony was owner and operator of N&S Plumbing for 46 years in Savanna and a leader in the community. He served as a board member at First Illinois National Bank of Savanna for over twenty years. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, especially bridge, with friends. Anthony spent many winters in Lehigh Acres, Florida where he had good friends and fun times. Trips to Italy where he met distant family and as a part of the Badger Honor flight to Washington DC were highlights of his life. Surviving are his children, James (Lucille) Spinoso of Huntsville, Alabama, Teri (Michael) Masterson of Palos Park, Nancy (David) Madden of Deforest, WI, and Thomas (Tori) Spinoso of Madison, Wisconsin; stepchildren, Stanley (Donna) Nadig of Savanna, Carson (Donna) Nadig of Hanover and Beth Ferris of Roscoe; brother the late Carl (Lois) Spinoso, sister the late Maryann (Joseph) Vittlo of Wheaton and brother, Peter (Dorothy) Spinoso of Savanna; 15 grandchildren; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives one brother and one sister.
Visitation will be Thursday February 26, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary. Funeral service will be Friday February 27 at 11:30 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 318 Chicago Avenue, Savanna, IL. A visitation will be held prior to the mass starting at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Savanna. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.
