Obituary

Pearl City, Illinois: August (Augie) William Jacobs, 91, of Pearl City died on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Medina Nursing Center in Durand, Illinois.  He was born on March 27, 1932 in Ridott, Illinois to William A.  and Marie E. (Meier) Jacobs.

He graduated from Shannon High School in 1950 and he attended Oklahoma A&M to train for his cryptography career in the Air Force.  He served his country during the Korean War from 1952-1956.  He married Nancy Fike on July 16, 1952 at Zion Church of Freeport and together they raised a family.

When he returned from service, he was a dairy farmer and worked for Standard Oil as the Location Manager in Pearl City.  In his retirement years, he worked at Park Hills Golf Course as a groundskeeper   and the Freeport Journal Standard as a rural route driver.  He enjoyed driving around the countryside looking at farms and cattle, attending family events and watching professional basketball.  One of his favorite things to do was to go to the local county fairs each summer.  August was a member of Zion Church where he sang in the choir, served as a board member and as the Sunday School Superintendent.  He was a member of the Pearl City American Legion Post 1014 and the VFW Post.

He is survived by his daughters, Terri Leniton of Denver, Colorado; Dina Smith of Ankeny, Iowa and Doreen (Rick) Diddens of Windsor, Wisconsin, as well as his siblings, Wilmer (Dianne) Jacobs of Shannon, Illinois; Roger (Phyllis) Jacobs of Pearl City; Earl (Chris) Jacobs of Clermont, Florida; Kenneth (Barb) Jacobs of Freeport, Illinois and Shirley (Scott) Deininger of Mooresville, North Carolina.

His legacy also includes his grandchildren, Sean (Alicia Cherry) Leniton, Matthew (Kelly) Jacobs, Nathan (Mandy) Jacobs, Jessie (Danielle) Jacobs, Casey Anthony, Kurtis (Ashley) Jacobs, Silas (Brooke) Jacobs, Walter (Kirstin Kiper) Ollie, Stephanie (Mike) VanDelinder, Mitchell (Brittany) Smith and Nick Diddens.

His great-grandchildren include Melania Garcia, Layla Garcia, Knox Leniton, Finley Leniton, Zander Jacobs, Sophia Jacobs, Norah Jacobs, Jadyn Pinkwasser, Drew (Angelica) Rogers, Gabriella Hornung (Josh Daggert), Hayes Jacobs, James Anthony, William Anthony, Ethan Jacobs, Remington Jacobs, Ruger Jacobs, Aurora Jacobs, Taylynne Jacobs, Emery Jacobs, Felix Smith, Everett Smith and 2 on the way. He also was the proud Great-Great-Grandfather of Santino Rogers.

August was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nancy, two sons, Dean and Tracy, and two siblings, Arthur and Martha.

The family will receive visitors on Monday, October 2 from 3-6pm at Walker Mortuary in Freeport.  His service will be on Tuesday, October 3 at 10:30am to be held at Zion Church of Freeport on Stephenson St. Rd.  His final resting place will be next to Nancy at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.  A memorial has been established in his name.  Condolences can be left for the family at www.walkermortuary.com.
