Obituary

Barbara A. Afflerbaugh, 77, of Davis died Monday, May 13, 2013 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Born July 24, 1935 in Rockford she was the daughter of William and Helen (Bennett) Bamford. She was a 1955 graduate of Rockford West High School. Upon graduation she worked for Barber Colman in Rockford. She married Robert LaFurge Sr. on July 30, 1960 in Davis; they had three children Loreen, Robert Jr. and Cindy. During the years of raising the children, she drove school bus for Dakota School District, becoming the first woman school bus driver in Stephenson County. She drove bus for many years. Following that, Barb started working for the Davis Post Office as a clerk. She advanced to Postmaster prior to her retirement. She was a charter member of Faith Community Church of Davis and the Durand American Legion Woman's Auxiliary. Barb married Chet Afflerbaugh on June 23, 1984. After both retired, they enjoyed extensive travel, including having a winter home in Tucson, AZ. Chet preceded her in death on March 10, 2001. In later years, she met her special friend Larry Russell. They enjoyed traveling and researching genealogy. In September 2012, Barb fulfilled a life-long dream of visiting all 50 states by taking a trip to Hawaii with her good friend, Helen Hafen. She also enjoyed many years of golfing. She was on a weekly woman's league at Windy Acres where she made many good friends. Those left to cherish her memory are her three children Loreen (Dave) MacDonald of Davis, Robert (Debra) LaFurge Jr. of Byron, Cindy (Kirk) Minkie of Dakota; six grandchildren Jared (Jacqueline) MacDonald, Sean (Ana Lucia) MacDonald, Nicole LaFurge, Brandon LaFurge, Cory (fiancé Lindsey Kinney) Minkie, Kale (Edie) Minkie; six great grandchildren Cali, Kelsie, Kara, Riley, Parker and Paxson. Preceding her in death were her mother and stepfather Harold and Helen Johnson, her sister Nancy Bamford, husband Chet Afflerbaugh and special friend Larry Russell. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Faith Community Church of Davis. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Faith Community Church with Pastor Bob Kolb officiating. Burial will be at the Davis Cemetery, Davis. A memorial has been established in her name.
