Barbara Homan, age 65, of Jamestown, TN, passed away on August 31, 2024 after a hard-fought battle with renal cancer. She was born July 30, 1959 in Freeport, IL to Robert C. and Imelda (Baumgartner) Homan. She was a graduate of Freeport High School. Barbara retired from the Untied State Army at 1SG. She served in Iraq and ran the motor pool while in Washington state. She also aided in the clean up after the Mt. Saint Helen eruption. Barbara was the first woman to manage the National Cemetery in Tampa, FL. She was a member of the Savanna, IL VFW. She enjoyed RV camping, hiking, and cooking with her brothers. She loved animals, especially her dog, Maggie. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. She was loving referred to as a being a goofball, earning her the nickname "The Illinois Loon." She is survived by her mother, Imelda Homan of Freeport; brothers, Robert C. (Connie) Homan of Jamestown, TN, Ronald Homan of Freeport, John (Dawn Shrum) Homan of Lincolnton, NC, and Michael (Kimberly Klouser) Homan of Freeport; sister-in-law, Cynthia Homan of Freeport; and several aunts, nieces, nephews, & cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert C. Homan; brother, Richard Homan; and nephew, Robert W. Homan. A private interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport with Military Honors. A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society and Friends Forever Human Society of Freeport. Condolences may be shared with her family at www.walkermortuary.com.
