IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Benjamin P.
Mahoney
April 13, 1978 – January 21, 2024
Benjamin Patrick Mahoney, 45, passed away on Sunday January 21, 2024, as a result of complications with liver disease. Ben was a loving and devoted father to his daughter, Vega Oefelein, 24, and a beloved son and brother. He was a treasured friend and loved by many. Ben was always willing to help anyone who needed a hand; though because of his fear of heights, his best friend Bob Marney learned that roofing was where he drew the line.
Ben would move heaven and earth for his daughter and enjoyed being a part of raising many children in addition to Vega, whether they belonged to a friend or family member. He was a father to all in his charge and to them, exuded a wise and protective presence. Ben could also light up a room and bring laughter with his quirky sense of humor and great comedic timing. He greatly enjoyed watching sports with his friends, as well as watching and collecting movies and TV shows.
Ben strived to live by example of his late grandfather and pillar of the community, William Turner, who he was very close to. He was a devout Catholic following his grandmother, Rosalie Turner.
Ben is survived by his daughter Vega, mother Susan Ward, brothers Levi (Brittney), Dalton (Lindsey), Schnaider, Remy and Moises Ward, nephew Zabi, cousins Libby Irving, Abby Krueger, Heather Andrews, Kristen Janssen, Brian Turner, Daniel Turner and Christopher Oppold. Aunts Nancy Newton, Angie Irving, Uncles Marty Turner and Matthew Mahoney. A second special mom, Deb Reed, and many dear friends such as Bob Marney, Ron, Chris, Tony, Jackey and many others. Ben was preceded in death by his brother Alan Quintos, father Martin Mahoney, grandparents Rosalie and William Turner, Sefarina and Joseph Mahoney, cousins Jennifer Huston and Scott Halbin.
A visitation for Ben will be held at 3:00-6:00 PM on Friday, January 26, 2023, and his funeral will be the following day at 1:00 PM. Both will be held at Walker Mortuary in Freeport IL. Condolences can be shared with the family at www.walkermortuary.com .
