Freeport-Betty J. Ihm, 77, of Freeport, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at the FHN Memorial Hospital.
Born July 13, 1929 in Harlem Twp. she was the daughter of Jacob and Martha (Gerber) TerHark. She married Charles E. Gartman August 7, 1947 and he died June 5, 1984. She married Richard Ihm February 29, 1996 in LasVegas, Nevada and he died February 6, 1998 in Freeport.
Betty worked as a Dry Cleaner, first at Sanitary Laundry, then Wardrobe Cleaners in Freeport, and then was a manager trainer for the Illinois Cleaners in St. Charles for 35 years. She was co-owner of Ihm Motor Sales with her husband, Richard Ihm.
She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose and a long time member of the Teamster's Union.
Surviving are two daughters, Marie (Frank) Janosi of Bonham, Texas and Ali (Althea) (Fiancé Dale Anderson) Cartwright of Bristol; one son, Larry (Laura) Gartman of Aurora; one sister, Mary Lou (Sam) Koelling of Freeport; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, James David Gartman; Grandson, Tommie W. Stambaugh Jr.; granddaughter, Talisha Bryant; 2 sisters, Mae Gassman and Lillian Ihm.
Funeral service will be Monday 10:30 a.m. at Walker Mortuary with Reverend Katie Mapes of Cedarville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Sunday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
A memorial has been established for Highland Community College Foundation.
