Betty J. Maize, 73, of Durand died Saturday December 11, 2010 at Provena St. Joseph Home Freeport. Born July 28, 1937 at home in rural Elizabeth she was the daughter of Wilmer T. and Anna (Randecker) Wurster. On March 5, 1961 she married Russell D. Pieper in Elizabeth he preceded her in death in 1987. She then married Lawrence Maize in July of 1991. For many years she was employed at the Durand State Bank as a teller. She was a member of the Winneshiek Evangelical Free Church and was a member of the Joy Singers. She is survived by her husband Lawrence of Durand; 4 step sons Dennis (Carla) Maize, Larry (Karen) Maize, Ernie Maize, Dean (Doris) Maize; two step daughters Connie (Perry) Hix, Cheryl McCrary; one sister Carol (Don) Niemeyer and four nieces Anna Niemeyer, Amy (Andy) Bridenstine, Jennifer (Karen and Lexi Oilar) Niemeyer and Victoria (Teron) Townsend. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Russell and step son Timothy Maize.
