Betty Mathews , 95 of Freeport died on December 25 ^th at FHN Hospital with her family by her side.  She was born August 15, 1924 in Freeport to Benjamin and Freida (Ruthe) Lindgren.  She was a graduate of Freeport High School in 1943.  She married John W. Mathews on June 15, 1947.  He died on Feb 22, 2007. She was a lifelong member of St. John United Church of Christ, Freeport, IL.  She was also a Lady Elk and a past two time President of the Scottish Rites Women's Club.

Surviving are her sons, Thomas (Dianne) and Michael (Rosemary) Mathews both of Freeport.  Her grandchildren are Sheena Mathews of Freeport, Jason Mathews (Heather) of Dakota, Ashley (Ben) Harnish of Lena, Jeremy (Tonya) Mathews Freeport and 4 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 4 sisters, Mary Bauch and Dorothy Leif, Aleatha "Lee" Fickes and Berniece Anderson.

Services will be Tuesday December 31 beginning with a visitation at 9:30 and a service at 11:00am all at St. John United Church of Christ.
