Freeport
Betty J. Wessel, 89, of Freeport, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Provena St. Joseph Nursing Center.
Born June 20, 1922 in Freeport she was the daughter of Gustave and Clara (Kampmeier) Bush. She married Roy Wessel, June 20, 1942, and he died March 20, 1972.
She graduated from Freeport High School and attended Rockford College.
Betty was a lifelong active member of St. John United Church of Christ. She operated the House and Garden Shop and then worked at C.H. Little for 18 years.
She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She was active in the RSVP program, and Tau Alpha Circle.
Surviving are 3 children, Sandy (Dennis) Maves of Lakewood, CO, Douglas (Debbie) Wessel of Eau Claire, WI, and Dan (Pam) Wessel of Freeport; 1 sister, Marilyn Clark of Hartsville, TN; 10 grandchildren, Lisa(Adam Szofran) Maves, Laurie (Troy Coon) Maves, Sara, Meghan, and Aaron Wessel, Jennifer (Jake) Young, Andrea and Laura Wessel, Lonny (Patti) Boeke, and Kelli Boeke; and 7 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and infant son.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at St. John United Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.
A memorial has been established.
