Freeport – Beverly Joyce Keim, 86, formerly of Mt. Carroll passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026 at Manor Court in Freeport. She was born on August 22, 1939 in Chicago, Il to Olaf and Clementine (Keller) Groff. After high school she completed a semester of college at the University of Colorado before moving back to Illinois where she graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1963 and taught Home Economics for 5 years at Mt. Carroll High School. Following her teaching career, she kept busy with the family dairy operation, helping her former husband milk cows and raise a family for the duration of her working years. She kept very busy shuffling 2 boys to church youth groups, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H and sports.
Beverly was always active in her church at United Methodist Church of Mt. Carroll for 40 years and then at Faith United Methodist of Freeport. Being a part of the church prayer chain was very important to her. She was a Sunday School teacher and she was a member of the Women’s Aglow group too. Her faith was an important part of her life. She was also a member of the University Illinois Extension. Beverly also thoroughly enjoyed garage sales and auctions.
She is survived by her sons, Brian Keim of Mt. Carroll and Scott Keim of Chadwick, IL. Her legacy also includes 2 grandchildren, Jalen (Natalie) Keim of Lincoln City, Oregon and Harper Keim of Lanark; Her nieces and nephews of Colorado include, Christine (Douglas) King Walters, Cynthia (David) King Adam, Curt (Tina) King, Charles (Michelle) King, Stacie Groff Mcquown and Brent Groff.
She is predeceased by her parents, Olaf and Clementine, Groff; Brother, Leonard Groff; Sister, Carol Sue King; Brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” King and infant brother, Robert Groff; her former husband, Don Keim.
Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be a visitation held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 beginning at 5pm and a service to immediately follow at 6pm all at Faith UMC of Freeport, with Pastor Joel McClellan officiating.
