Freeport – Bonnie Lee Gorham, 78 of Freeport passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 3, 2021. Born on October 10, 1943 to the late Paul and Marian (Neuschwander) Janicke. She married James Gorham on August 24, 1962 in Cedarville, IL and together they raised a family of 3 children. Bonnie operated "Bonnie's Daycare" in her home for 45 years. She loved her daycare children as if they were her own.
Bonnie was someone who loved her family dearly, especially her beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a huge Elvis fan. She loved to travel, go dancing, play euchre, do puzzles, go to casinos and tractor pulls, bake, feed the birds, garden, mow yard and relax in the sun.
She is survived by her husband, James; Her children, Robert (Christine) Gorham of Freeport; Brian Gorham of West Union, IA and Tammy Jo (Steve) Gahm of Cedarville. She is also survived by her siblings including her sister, Sharon Kuhlemeier of Freeport; brother Harold Janicke of Lena; sister Peggy (James) Quinn of Lena; and Dennis (Sara) Janicke of Kent as well as her sister-in-law, Eleanor Lamm of Rock City. She also leaves behind a dear friend, Betty Wing.
Her legacy includes her grandchildren, Eric (Debra) Gorham of Clarksville, TN; Heather (Brandon) Block of Pearl City; Tiffanie (Randall) Duchow of Lena; Matthew (Katlyn) Gorham of Freeport; Branden (Kaylie) Beverley of Rockford; Brooke (Brent Cribbs) Beverley of Bettendorf, IA; Geofry and Dale Gahm of Lena; Her great grandchildren include Hunter, Lily, Marcus, Clayton, Garrett, Lucas, Ryleigh, Lincoln, Savanna and Baby Duchow.
Preceding her in death are her parents, sisters-in-law, Kay Sturtevant, Marilyn Gorham and Janice Janicke and her brother-in-law Vern Kuhlemeier and her dear friend Robert "Bob" Wing.
A visitation will take place on Sunday, November 7 th from 3-6pm at Walker Mortuary. Services will be on Monday, November 8 th at 11am with Pastor Matt Mitchell officiating the service. In honor of Bonnie, please feel free to wear her favorite color, purple, to the service. Burial will take place at Grandview Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her name.
