Carl R. Stenzhorn, 81, of Freeport, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born March 17, 1927 in Freeport he was the son of George and Martha (Aisenbrey) Stenzhorn. He married Myra Regez December 18, 1949 in Freeport.
Carl worked for General Casualty Company, Union Dairy, Newell Companies, and for 17 years at Walker Mortuary.
Carl was a life time member of Zion Church where he was in the choir since he was 13 years old. He was a past Deacon and Elder and was presently the Bus Coordinator. He was a long time member of the Church singing group, The Workmen.
He was a World War II veteran. He was a member and Past Commander of the Disabled Veterans.
Surviving is his wife, Myra of Freeport; 1 daughter, Debra (Kelly) Hayenga of Freeport; 1 son, Brian (Catherine "Catie") Stenzhorn of Cedarville; one sister, Elsie Nelms of Waukegan; 5 grandchildren, David and Kristina Hayenga, Megan, Heather, and Joshua Stenzhorn; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother in-law, Tony Nelms.
Funeral service will be Friday 10 a.m. at Zion Church with Pastor Gardy Cronk officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Thursday 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
