Carol M. Bremer Tompkins, 87, of Winnebago, died Monday, November 4, 2013 in her home.
Born July 3, 1926 in rural Pearl City she was the daughter of Perry and Marie (Baries) Ditzler.
She married Edwin F. Bremer September 4, 1948 and he died January 26, 1995. She married Ernest C. Tompkins February 10, 1996 and he died February 1, 2006.
Fifth in her class she was a 1944 graduate of Pearl City High School. She graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing.
A registered nurse, she worked at Rockford Memorial Hospital and Swedish American Hospital, Barnes Drill Company as an industrial nurse, and retired from Winnebago County Health Department as a Public Health Nurse, after many years of service.
She was a member of The Cadet Nurse Corp.
Surviving are her son, William L. (Sally) Bremer of Lake Summerset; two daughters, Susan M. (Bryan) Kloster of Rockford and Carol Ann (Scott) Aultman of Cedarville; her brother, Theron (Dorothy) Ditzler of Pearl City; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Norma Ditzler of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; one sister, Eunice L. Daniels; two brothers, Gerald Ditzler; and her infant brother, Robert Ditzler.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Walker Mortuary, 321 W. Main, Freeport. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
Visitation will be Saturday 10 a.m. until time of service at Walker Mortuary in Freeport.
A memorial has been established in her name.
