Carol J. (Kortemeier) Sorn, age 71 of Freeport, IL, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 7 ^th , 2018 from the result of an accidental fall in October 2017. She also courageously battled cancer for 10 years. She was born April 30, 1946; the daughter of the late Albert and Leah (Dixon-Hofmeister) Kortemeier. She was a graduate of Dakota High School in 1964. In 1965 Carol married Ron Sorn . Later she spent many happy years with the love of her life, Bob Douglas.

She was a registered optometric assistant at Freeport Optometric Center until her retirement. She had also worked part time as a cashier at local grocery stores and volunteered at Freeport Memorial Hospital. Carol was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ where she also sang in the church choir. She was a past member of the Christian Women's Club. Carol enjoyed music, gardening and traveling. She had a love of cardinals, giraffes and Winnie the Pooh. Most of all she loved her family. She was the kindest and sweetest person and a friend to all.

She is survived by her daughters, Christine (Dann) Youle of Kentwood, MI and Stephanie (Brian) Terrizzi of Templeton, CA; longtime companion, Bob Douglas of Freeport; grandchildren: Hannah, Aimee & Garrett Youle, and Aida & Kate Terrizzi; brother, Albert L. "Butch" (Lori) Kortemeier of Freeport; several nieces, nephews and dear friends; and by many children who called her grandma. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arnold Kortemeier; and nephew, Brian Kortemeier.
