Carol L. Severson, age 80 of Freeport, IL, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the Stephenson Nursing Center in Freeport. She was born January 21, 1936 in St. Paul, MN; the daughter of the late Edward and Marie H. (Horn) Reiser. She was raised and educated in Geneseo, IL, graduating from high school in 1954. In 1958, she graduated from Wisconsin State College in Platteville, WI with a Bachelor's Degree in K-Primary Education. Carol married Roland Severson on December 22, 1962 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, WI; he died January 25, 1992.
She began her teaching career in Beloit, WI, teaching Kindergarten at Robinson School. Upon moving to Freeport after her marriage, Carol taught several years in Pre-School, Kindergarten and 1st Grade. She enjoyed activities with family and friends and helping others. Carol joined Immanuel Lutheran Church December 7, 2004 where she was active in the Asker's Bible Study.
She is survived by cousins, Bob (Shirley) Reiser of Waanakee, WI, Susan (Pat) Noether of Lake Mills, WI, Sallie (Jim) Jay of Rockford, IL, Betty Tuttle of Prairie du Chien, Nancy Reiser and Earl Reiser of Prairie du Chien, and Jeanne (Neil) Hampton of Bloomington, WI; brother-in-law, Alan (Jeanette) Severson of Rockford; sisters-in-law, Mary (Richard) Salib of MN and Shirley Winlaw of MN; several nieces & nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Roland.
The funeral service will be held Friday, November 4th at 11:00 a.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Platteville, WI. A memorial fund has been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freeport
