Obituary

Carol Elaine Wagner 64, devoted wife and daughter, loving mother and grandmother of Freeport passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 10,2007 following a courageous battle with cancer to be with our lord, Jesus Christ.
Born January 28, 1943 in Lena. She was the daughter of Harold and Esther (Baker) Bergman of Lena. Carol attended school in Lena and graduated in 1960.Carol married William C Wagner on August 20, 1960 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lena. Carol was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Freeport.
She worked at General Casualty Insurance Company in Freeport in the mail and supply room for 23 years, retiring March 31st, 2006.
Carol's greatest joy was her flower gardens. She also enjoyed helping others with their flowers. Some of her other favorite activities were shopping, cooking, cleaning and decorating the house according to the seasons and holidays .She especially enjoyed displaying her large snowman collection during Christmas. She loved to attend her granddaughter's softball and volleyball games. Her greatest passion in life was spending time with her four grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband William, daughter Kim (Brian) Evans, her son's Bill (Autumn) Wagner and Eric Wagner all of Freeport. Four grandchildren, Erin and Lauren Evans, Seth Wagner and Craig Wagner all of Freeport. Her mother Esther Bergman of Lena, two brothers, Richard (Jeannie) Bergman of Stockton and Dennis of Lena, Brother and sister- in- law Don and Lois Wagner and Brother- in- law Richard Hamm of Freeport and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her father Harold Bergman, her father and mother- in- law-Leonard and Florence Wagner and sister- in- law Geraldine Hamm; several aunts and uncles.
The family would like to thank Dr. Workman, Dr. Fernandez and the staff of the Leonard C. Ferguson Cancer Center, the caring and supportive staff of FHN Hospice, and the third floor nurses and aids at FHN Memorial Hospital.
The family would like to thank everyone for all the flowers, cards, visits and being so supportive during this difficult time. A special thank you to Pastor Donnley Dutcher of St. John United Church of Christ and Pastor Kretzmann of First Lutheran Church for their support, visits and encouraging words and prayers.
We will miss her very much, but someday we will all meet again, you will always be with us. Love your family.
Funeral service will be Wednesday 10:30 a.m. at St. John United Church of Christ with Reverend Neville Kretzmann officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.
Visitation will be Tuesday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
Memorials have been established for the Leonard C. Ferguson Center and the FHN Hospice.
