Caroline June Fogel, 94, of Freeport, went home to her Lord and Savior, Wednesday February 5, 2014.
She was known as "Grandma" to all who knew her.
Caroline was born on June 21, 1919 daughter of Mervin and Braunie (Murray) Haight in Stockton.
Caroline married Wayne E. Fogel on October 17, 1936 and lived in Freeport during their 72 year marriage. She was employed by Emmert Drug Store and the store formally known as Reads, Weises and then Bergners of Freeport as a cosmetician. In their retirement, Wayne and Caroline cooked for Open Bible daycare children.
Caroline was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She loved and collected Cardinals and believed that they were a sign that everything would be okay. She was a mother and a mentor. She loved and nurtured countless children by teaching in Sunday school and junior choir for over 20 years.
Caroline is survived by her children, Sherrill Bruning (John) of Winnebago and Wayne "Butch" Fogel (Teresa) of Pearl City; grandchildren Steve Pyper (Cheri), Cindi Runte (Rich), Jeff Pyper (Cristina), Ryan Bruning (Heather), Lenn Fogel, Leann Fogel, Leslie Becker, Tony Fogel (Denise), Jay Fogel; 15 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband; infant daughter Caroline; brothers Ted Haight, Darrell Haight, Mervin (Pink) Haight, Jim Haight, Roland (Gus) Haight; and grandchildren Lonn Fogel and Renae Bruning.
The family would like to thank Freeport Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Dr. Terry Miller, Open Bible Church and Pastor Parker for their wonderful care of her.
Cremation rites have been accorded
A celebration service will be held at First Church of the Open Bible, 3800 W. Stephenson Street on Saturday February 8, 2014 at 10 a.m. A gathering for friends and family will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church. A lunch will be held at the church following the service. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
