Carolyn M. Smith, age 95 of Freeport, IL, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. She was born February 21, 1921; the daughter of the late Otho and Inez (Garman) Ports. She was a 1939 graduate of Polo High School where she excelled in short hand and typing. After graduation, she worked for the State Auditor's Office in Springfield until her marriage to Frank E. Smith on November 9, 1946 in Springfield, IL; he passed on April 27, 1979.
Carolyn had farmed alongside her husband in the Davis area for many years. She had also worked for Crum & Forester Insurance. Being a homemaker and raising her children was her most important job. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Freeport. Carolyn enjoyed playing cards, cooking and helping others.

She is survived by sons Ray (Susan) Smith of Dakota, IL and Jim (Jane Lea) Smith of Del Mar, CA; daughters, Suzanne (David) Busjahn of Rock Grove, IL and Cynthia (Ken) Vrazsity of Dakota; step-daughter, Sharon Daily of Midway, UT; grandchildren, Dr. James Smith, Jennifer Hoggatt, Bill Busjahn, Rebecca Smith, Jeffrey Smith, Jessica Buttimer, Jillane Toelke, Joshua Lizer, Jordan Vrazsity, Kaytlyn Vrazsity and Emma Smith; 23 great grandchildren; and sister, Joyce Albers of Milledgeville, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; sister, Marie; infant brother; and granddaughter, Stephanie.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 11th at 11:00 am at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Freeport, IL. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 9:00 am. A private burial will take place at the Durand Cemetery at a later date. A memorial fund has been established for Prince of Peace Lutheran Church
