Obituary
Catherine J. Miramonti, 91 of Rockford died Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
Born June 8, 1922 in Digby, Novia Scotia, she was the daughter of Daniel and Eleanor Hatt.
She was a veteran of the United States Navy and taught kindergarten in Bellwood, IL School District 88. After 30 years of teaching, Joy, as she was often called, moved to the Freeport area to be near her family. She mentored grade school students in German Valley and Freeport and enjoyed traveling. Catherine was a member of Retired Teachers Association and Freeport RSVP.
Surviving are her daughter Carolyn (Stephen Weigel) Sluiter of Freeport, two grandchildren Ben (Linda) Sluiter of German Valley, Elizabeth Sluiter of German Valley; one sister Betty Huot of California.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one son James Miramonti Jr. and a brother Don Hatt.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at a later date and burial will be at the Silver Creek Reformed Church Cemetery in German Valley.
A memorial fund has been established in her name for Elder's Eden Alzheimer's Residence of Rockford.
