Charles "Bart" Barton Graves, Sr., 73, of Davis, IL, passed away on August 7, 2017 at
his home, after a long illness.
Charles was born in Freeport, IL on July 5, 1944 to Charles "Ben" and Mary (Gerloff)
Graves. He served overseas in Europe for the Army and is a veteran of the Vietnam
War. He served 1963 - 1967. While serving his country, he received the following:
Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam) - Republic of Vietnam Commendation
Medal - National Defense Service Medal-Expert. After the army, he attended the Lincoln
Barber College in Rockford, IL and received his diploma on July 15, 1970. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and dominoes, and loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He worked various jobs throughout his life; he retired from TNT Steel as a welder in 2006.
Charles is survived by daughter, Paula (Tim) Rau, Davis, IL; son, Charles (Michelle) B.
Graves, Jr., Bowling Green, KY; 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; a niece and nephews; a sister, Judy (Tom) Bergstrom; brothers, Chuck (Karen) Graves, Jeff Graves, and John Graves.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben Graves and Mary Gerloff; his grandparents,
Charles M. and Ida Graves, William and Elizabeth Gerloff; a brother, David Graves; a sister, Betty Wallace, and the mother of his children, Martha Graves.
A memorial service will be held at Walkers Funeral Home in Freeport, IL on Monday,
August 14, 2017. The family will meet with friends and family from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to reminisce, with Military Honors and service at 6:30p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family will designate the memorials at a later date
