Charles W. Corbitt, 61, of Freeport, died Saturday, November 1, 2008 at his home after a battle with cancer.
Born February 4, 1947 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas he was the son of Warren and Marie (Alls) Corbitt. He married Kathryn A. Nichols February 14, 1985.
He was 1965 graduate of Polo High School.
He was a veteran of the Viet Nam War.
Charles worked at Titan Tire (Kelly Springfield) for 33 and ½ years retiring in December of 2007.
Charles was a loving and devoted husband.
Charles enjoyed conversation and never met anyone that was a stranger. He also loved shooting skeet & sporting clay, reading books, music, attending to his cats, and grilling food for his family.
He was a collector of John Deere miniature toys, cars, and trucks.
He was a member of Rockford Skeet Club.
He was a former assistant Scout Master of Boy Scouts.
Surviving is his wife, Kathryn of Freeport; his parents of Polo; 2 sons, Jarrett (Jennifer) Corbitt of Haynesville, Louisiana and Brandon (Sondra) Corbitt of Houma, Louisiana; 1 step-son, Michael Harnish of Freeport; 2 brothers, L. Wade (Susan) Corbitt of Polo and Roger (Virginia) Corbitt of Polo; 2 granddaughters, Jacey Corbitt and Gabrielle Corbitt; 1 step- grandson, Hayden; numerous aunts, uncles, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 1 brother, David Corbitt.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial services will be Saturday 10:00 a.m. at Walker Mortuary.
Visitation will be Friday 4 to 8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for FHN Foundation, FHN Hospice, and Leonard C. Ferguson Cancer Center.
