Chris J. Dittmar, age 98 of Freeport, IL, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018 at the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton, IA. He was born June 7, 1919 in Freeport; the son of the late Walter and LaVilla (LeBaron) Dittmar. He attended Freeport High School. Chris married Jeanne Mantzke on June 9, 1946 in Lena, IL; she passed on September 27, 2001.

He had served in the United States Army from 1940 to 1946, serving three of those years in the South Pacific. Chris worked at Micro Switch as a punch presser for 30 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Freeport. He was also a member of the Golden 'K' Kiwanis and the Lena Lions Club. Chris enjoyed fishing and camping. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by grandsons, Todd Chase and Scott Chase and 7 great grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanne; son, Chris Dittmar Jr.; step-daughter, Linda Chase; and his siblings.
