Rock City - Clara F. Gill, 88 of Rock City died peacefully at Medina Nursing Center of Durand on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.  She was born on June 29, 1935 in Freeport to the late Otto and Edith (Toelke) Grunder.  She married Robert Gill on November 29, 1958 and together they built a life and raised a family.

She worked at Swiss Colony for several years and she also helped on the family farm.  Clara was an avid WalMart shopper.  She loved to work in the yard on her flower beds, spend time with her family and grandchildren and go camping.  She was a member of the Rock Grove Lutheran church.

Surviving her are her daughter, Marcene Sughroue of Rock Grove, and her sons, Greg (Connie) Gill of Machesney Park, IL; Leroy (Vickie) Gill of Rock Grove and Matt (Sarah Finch) Gill of Rock Grove.  She also leaves behind her sisters, Helen (Dick) Schneeberger of Davis; Dorothy Kreger of Freeport and her brother, Chuck (Deb) Grunder of Florida. Her legacy includes eight grandchildren, Nick (Kristi) Gill of Forreston; Rob (Stacy) Gill of CO; Jessie (Chris) Colvin of Davis; Ben (Jenny) Sughroue of Davis; Tatumn Gill of Rock Grove; Talon Gill of Rock Grove; Brandon Gill of Hatfield, WI and Chad Hansen of Murphysboro, IL.  Clara also has eleven great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband; 1 son, Kim Gill; her sisters, Marie Johnson, Edith Rosenstiel, Bertha Keister and Judy Strong as well as one brother, Ben Grunder; brothers-in-law, Claude Kreger, Bill Keister, Elwood Strong, Mike Rosenstiel and a sister-in-law, Gwen Cummins.

There will be a visitation held on, Thursday, March 14th beginning at 10:30am followed by a service at 11:30 am all at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota, Illinois.

In Lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name for St. Jude's Children's hospital.  Her final resting place will be next to her husband at the Rock Grove cemetery.  Condolences can be left for the family at www.walkermortuary.com
