Rock City – Clyde L. Filer, 87, passed away on Feb 7, 2021 at FHN Memorial Hospital surrounded by his wife and sons. Clyde was born on July 1, 1933 in Lanark to Lloyd and Susie (Goodrich) Filer. He graduated from Leaf River High School in 1952. On September 16, 1956 he married Joyce Pieper in Epleyanna, IL. Clyde was a retired farmer from Rock City. He was a veteran of the 1st division of the US Army serving in Germany from 1953-1955. He was a member of the St. Paul Church of Epleyanna for 65 years. His other memberships included Stephenson County Pork Producers, Stephenson County Farm Bureau and the American Legion in Durand, IL. In retirement Clyde enjoyed trips with his wife and family and fishing with everyone especially his grandchildren.
Clyde is survived by his wife, Joyce of Rock City, three sons, Kevin (Sharon) Filer of Davis, Randy (Anne) Filer of Helenville, WI and Brian (Amy) Filer of Davis. He had eleven grandchildren; Solomon, (Andrea), Rachel (Christo) Noah, Josh (Anna), Nick (Sarah), Heather (Shawn), Angela, Lindsey (Zac), Ethan, Beau, and Jordan. His legacy also includes 13 Great Grandchildren.
Also surviving him are his sisters, Carol Skeel, Beth Thompson and Cleo Filer (John Hall), sister-in-law, Dorothy Laube and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Charlotte Filer, brothers-in-law Don Thompson and Art Skeel. Also preceding him were brother and sister-in-law, Russ and Betty Pieper as well as an infant niece and infant nephew.
A celebration of life will be held, Saturday, February 13th at St. Paul Church of Epleyanna with a visitation beginning at 10am followed by a service at 11am. He will be laid to rest at the church cemetery. Masks and social distancing will be required at all times out of respect for the family and all attendees.
A memorial has been established in his name for St. Paul Church. Arrangements are being handled by the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home of Dakota, IL. Condolences can be left for the family at www.walkermortuary.com
