Freeport – Dale C. Lapp, 79 of Freeport passed away at FHN Hospital on September 9, 2025 after an extended illness.  He was born on August 29, 1946 to James and Marian (Trimble) Lapp in Rochelle, IL.  He married Carolyn (Herold) Jacobs on March 29, 1996.

He served in the Navy being stationed in the Philippines and Vietnam. He was a faithful member of Harmony United Methodist Church where he always greeted everyone with a big smile and a warm hello.  He was a member of the Pearl City American Legion.  Dale enjoyed camping, going to flea markets with his wife and spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Lapp of Freeport.  His children, Julie (Tim) Hendricks of Sterling, IL; Dawn Thayer of Sterling, IL; Brian Lapp of Milledgeville, IL; Kelly Lapp of Milledgeville, IL; 2 sisters, Vonda James of Milledgeville, IL and Nancy (Kurt) Humphrey of Battle Ground, Washington as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his step son, James Jacobs; sons-in-law, David Haley and Scott Thayer.

A memorial has been designated in his name for Harmony United Methodist Church of Freeport.  A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 beginning at 10am at Walker Mortuary, immediately followed by a service at 11am.  His final resting place will be at Oakland Cemetery.
