Daniel J. Mauer

Bellevue, Iowa – Daniel J. Mauer, 81 of Bellevue, Iowa (formerly of Freeport) passed away at Mercy One Dubuque Medical Center after a brief illness on May 14, 2026.

Dan was born May 3, 1945 in Sioux City, Iowa to Harold G. and Margaret E. (Quick) Mauer. After High School he served in the US Navy during the Vietnam war from 1963-1967. He also worked in several places such as Anchor Harvey as a QA manager, Quality management at Modern Plating (1986-2000), Furst McNess, as an officer at the Freeport Police Department (1970-1974), and as a Security Supervisor at the Diamond Jo Casino in his retirement years.

He was a life member of the VietNow chapter in Freeport serving as secretary, a liaison officer, and serving on the board of directors for 2 years. Dan was also a member of the American Legion Bellevue, Iowa Post, the National Rifle Association, National Association for Gun Rights, and the Iowa Gun Owners Association.

He and his love, Mary Paul were very supportive of the Veteran organizations wherever they lived. They were inseparable until her passing on November 2, 2025.

His survivors are 3 sons, Daniel A. Mauer of Bellevue, Iowa., Roy J. Mauer and Troy M. Mauer of Freeport; a daughter, Donna L. (Mauer) Brunner of Lena, Il. 6 grandchildren: Eric Mauer, Emily Mauer, Timothy Davis, Aaron Mauer, Joshua Brunner and Elizabeth Brunner as well as several Great – grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and the love of his life, Mary Paul.
