David Darrell Dorsey, 67, of Freeport, Illinois passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia on his way to vacation with family in Florida. David was born on January 3, 1955 in Rockford, IL, the son of Donald and Dorothy (Dean) Dorsey. On November 25, 1989, he married Brenda Christensen at Crossroads Community Church in Freeport.

David worked for Lifescape Community Services in Rock Falls as the Supervisor for Adult Protective Services. He spent his life serving others, dedicating many years to helping seniors and adults with disabilities. Prior to working at Lifescape, he worked at the Senior Resource Center; before that, as a counselor for teens at Sleezer Youth Home.  David was an advocate for those who needed a voice. He was a generous, quiet man with much wisdom and a great sense of humor. David's favorite thing to do was spend time with his family.  He enjoyed reading, fishing and playing Barbies with his grandchildren. He was a fan of novels by Shakespeare, Tolkien, and Doyle. He also loved Calvin and Hobbs, DC Comics, Marvel, Star Trek and Doctor Who. In later days, he played Words with Friends and Yahtzee on his phone and spent time with his 2 cats and 2 dogs. David had been a part of Crossroads Community Church for over 30 years and volunteered throughout the time he attended.

David is survived by his wife Brenda of Freeport; his sons, Shaun (Tajia) Dorsey of Roscoe and Andrew Dorsey of Freeport; grandchildren: Jaydon, Taelyn, Taesyn and Taedyn Dorsey;  sisters Diane (Ed) Mayhew of Colona, Denise (Mike) Sornsin of Roscoe and brother, Darrell (Connie) Dorsey of Grand Island, Nebraska;  brother in law: Gary (Pat) Christensen, Colorado;  nephews: Sean (Bindy) Sornsin, Justin Sornsin, David Dorsey, Josh (Kristen) Dorsey and Scott (Dena) Christensen. Preceding him in death are his parents.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Crossroads Community Church, 1668 Crossroads Ln N Freeport, IL on Friday, June 24 at 6:30pm with Pastor Bill Longmore officiating. Visitation will be from 5pm until the time of service.  A light meal with be provided after the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in David's memory.
