Freeport
Delbert Lee Mailand, 82, of Freeport, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 31, 2011.
Del was born February 8, 1929 in Gratiot, Wisconsin. He attended the Freeport Schools.
On November 1, 1949 he married Joyce Entmeier in Freeport.
Delbert worked for Jake Smith Moving, Hawes Bottling Co., and W.T. Rawleigh. He then worked on the Illinois Central Railroad retiring after 41 years of service. After retirement he was a driver for Newell Companies.
Over the years, Del enjoyed playing cards, hunting and trapping, fishing, yard work and helping others.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; 2 daughters, Pat Mailand and Penny Beyer all of Freeport; 2 grandchildren, Joey Beyer of Freeport and Molly Beyer of Jacksonville, Florida; 2 brothers, Eugene (Marilyn) Mailand of Freeport and Gerry (Diane) Minear of Palm Harbor, Florida; 1 sister, Janice (Ron) Gendrich of Zephyr Cove, Nevada; and 1 brother-in-law, Richard Snyder of Ridott.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Vada Minear; his step-father, Richard Minear; 1 sister, Alma Mae Snyder; and 1 brother, Duane Mailand.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Walker Mortuary.
His funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in his name.
