Delores "Dee" McDonald Lenz was born on June 25, 1932, in Morris, Illinois, to John and Vera (Sondergaard) McDonald. She peacefully passed away in Clinton NC, with her daughter Ginnie and son in-law Dan, by her side Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the age of 93.
Dee married the love of her life, Donald Eugene Lenz, on December 8, 1950, in Freeport, Illinois. Together they raised their two children, John and Ginnie, building a home with love and laughter. Dee's life was rooted in faith at Saint Joseph Catholic Church of Freeport. She also enjoyed long-time memberships in Freeport's T.O.P.S. Club and Wisconsin's Sugar River Roses China Painting Club cherishing friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Dee had an amazing talent for china painting and a passion for collecting antiques. She loved the hunt for great finds at flea markets and garage sales. Dee had a talent for displaying her hand painted china, her collections, and photos of her family in a creative and beautiful style that was uniquely her own.
Five grandchildren called Dee Grandma or Grammy, and later she became Grandma GREAT. Dee will be remembered for all the roles she played in her life, and most of all for being a wonderful friend.
Dee is survived by her daughter, Ginnie Lenz Pflaume, and husband, Dan of Clinton, NC.; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Lenz of Waukegan, IL.; five grandchildren: Jeremy Pflaume, and wife, Stephanie (Gavin and Carter, great grandsons) of KY, Amanda Boyea, and husband, Scott, Kyle Pflaume (Aiden, great grandson), Erin Harless, and husband, Jonathan, Adam Pflaume, and wife, Amanda (Ryan, Easton, and Maverick, great grandsons) all of NC; brother-in-law, Robert (Peggy) Lenz; sister-in-law, Floreida "Fritzie" Lanes; and many special nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Dee was preceded in death by her husband Don, and son, John Lenz, her sister Marilyn Merkle, and her half-siblings Arnold Landon, James Landon, Jude Landon, and Helen Yost. Dee's light and love have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. We find great peace in knowing that she is now reunited with the love of her life.
