Dennis M. Last 1962-2025
Dennis "Denny" Marvin Last, 62, of Davis, IL. passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2025, in Monroe, WI. He was born on August 24, 1962, in Rockford, IL to Marvin and Joyce (Nielander) Last. He was one of five children. Dennis graduated from Dakota High School in 1981. Den was an amazing mechanic, caring uncle, devoted son, courageous brother, and loyal and trusted friend to many. He was the owner and mechanic of the Orangeville Garage in Orangeville, IL. since 1981.
He took over the garage when his dad, Marvin Last, retired in April 1995. Den was a person that you could always count on! He cared deeply about all of his friends and family members. If friends and family needed help with something, he was always a call away, and he was always ready to lend a hand. Den was a hard worker. He often was in the shop working on the weekends to make sure that people had their tractors and other equipment that they needed ready to go. In his down time, Den enjoyed having a beverage and relaxing with his friends after a hard day's work. Den loved his family very much, and he never missed a holiday gathering, or the annual picnic at the family farm. From a very early age, it was evident that Den had a gift for "wrenching." Many knew Den as the local trusted mechanic that could fix anything! If there was an issue with a tractor or vehicle, you could count on Den to have the solution to the problem. Den was passionate about his tractors, especially the red ones! He will also always be remembered for his annual tractor drive. His immense amount of knowledge was evident by the fact that he always had a line-up of farm machinery to work on. People knew that he could always get the job done. His numerous nieces and nephews also appreciated his expertise in mechanics.
Den is survived by his loving girlfriend, Cindy Pederson, his father, Marvin Last, and his siblings, Diane (Brad) Wurm, Denise Last, and Dan (Deb) Last. Den is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Kelli Kellogg, Adam and Luke Symanek, Nicole (Henry) Trampel, Lisa (Dan) Miller, Cheyne Anderson, Tyler (Maggie) Wurm, Mick and Rob Warren, and Ryan Last. He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Last, and his brother, Darrell Symanek. A visitation will be held at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota, IL. on March 14th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Rock City Fire Station on Saturday, March 15, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Rock City Cemetery following the service. On Saturday, the family encourages and welcomes anyone wishing to bring their tractor to the service. A memorial has been established in his name for the Rock City and Orangeville Fire Departments.
