Freeport: DeWayne V. Harbach, 75 of Freeport died at 11:12 p.m. Thursday March 16, 2006 at the Washington Manor Nursing Home in Kenosha, WI. Born February 13, 1931 in Freeport he was the son of Verl and Viola (Rawleigh) Harbach. On August 31, 1957 he and his wife Louise were married in Freeport and she preceded him in death on November 2, 2002. DeWayne was a graduate of Freeport High School were he was an outstanding athlete and member of the Lettermen's Club, He was a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion, and a Veteran of the Korean War. A lifetime mechanic he was a member of the Iron Workers Union, Local 498 out of Rockford and during his employment he worked on the construction of the John Hancock Building in Chicago the Byron Nuclear Plant and the Jones Laughlin Steel Mill. He retired in the mid 1980's. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Louise. A graveside service and burial with military honors will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday at Oakland Cemetery with the Reverend Douglas Q. Bowden of Faith United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary. A Memorial has been established in his name.
