DeWayne Simler, age 60 of Galesburg, IL, formerly of Freeport, IL, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He was born December 23, 1956; the son of the late Dale and Vivian (Holden) Simler. DeWayne was special from the moment he was born. Born very early with several health issues, he was given two years to live. He went on to live a happy 60 years.

He graduated from South Side Elementary School in Freeport and had worked at Malcolm Eaton. DeWayne lived in Galesburg where he attended school during the day and he also participated in the Special Olympics. He enjoyed bowling, singing, dancing and listening to his radio in his rocking chair.

He is survived by his brother, Steven (Jacqueline) Simler of San Diego, CA; aunt and caregiver, Georgette (Earl) Holden of Freeport; several aunts & uncles; and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Scott; and several aunts & uncles.
