Dina Henrietta "Dini" Oppenheimer, 94, of Freeport died Friday, June 19, 2015, at her home.
Born May 31, 1921 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, she was the daughter of Dr. Benjamin and Julie (Vecht) Frank. She married Walter Oppenheimer June 18, 1950, and he died December 4, 1996.
She was a member of Temple Beth El in Rockford and a lifetime member of Hadassah. Dini and her husband, Walter, were both survivors of the Holocaust. For over 50 years she gave many speeches in the area describing her experiences during that time.
Surviving are her children, Edgar (Lola) Oppenheimer and Emily (John) Hartman both of Freeport; her grandchildren, Aaron (Erica) Oppenheimer of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Andrew Hartman of St. Louis, Missouri, Alexandra Hartman of New York, and Andrea Hartman of Freeport; her great grandchild, Landon Oppenheimer of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her brother, Dr. Rudolf Frank.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2015 at Walker Mortuary. Friends may call Monday 1 p.m. until time of service at the Mortuary. Burial will be in the Rockford Hebrew Cemetery in Rockford at 4 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2015.
A memorial has been established for Friends Forever Humane Society.
