Dixie L. Zettle , age 80 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Stephenson Nursing Center in Freeport. She was born July 16, 1938; the daughter of the late Calvin and Harriett (Layton) Bender. She married Elmer Zettle on March 27, 1960; he passed on July 22, 2011.

Dixie was a homemaker, raising her family and babysitting for many years. She was an avid bowler and bowled in a league in her younger years. She loved to have fun, especially going to lakes and playing darts.

She is survived by two daughters, Diana (William) Schmelzer and Wanda Zettle both of Freeport; grandchildren, Michael (Amber) Schmelzer, Troy Schmelzer, James Cobb, and Roseanne Zettle; and great grandchildren, Liam and Raef Schmelzer. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; son, Scott; six sisters; and five brothers.

The funeral service will be held Monday, August 13 ^th at 12:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport with a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
