Donald H. Bolen, age 92, of Freeport, IL, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Oakley Courts in Freeport, Illinois.

Don was born on August 19, 1931 to Minnie and Rolland Bolen. After graduating from Leaf River High School, he married Elsie Dammann on May 26, 1951. Don and Elsie were the proud parents of two children.

Don worked for many years in the Engineering Department at Micro Switch and was a Freeport School Bus Driver, as well as umpiring baseball and refereeing basketball. He was also active at Bethany United Church of Christ and the Masonic Temple.

Don and Elsie enjoyed many years of traveling, camping and fishing. Don also had a love for the game of golf. After the sudden death of his beloved wife Elsie in 1998, he met and married Doris Hecker in 1999. They also had many years of traveling and she loved golf as much as Don did. Don was blessed to have Doris' family in his life.

Don was predeceased by his parents, wife Elsie, and siblings Jean Zehr, Norland Bolen, and Patricia Bolen.

Don is survived by second wife Doris, sister Vicki (Jim) Warner and his children Dave (Mary Beth) Bolen and Cindy (Brian) Earnest. He was also grandfather to Jason Earnest, Angie Schreck, Dr. Kara (Ryan) Mote, and Kendra (Mark) Whitlock, as well as 8 great grandchildren.

There will be a visitation held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 beginning at 10:30 am at Walker Mortuary.  A Masonic service will follow at 11:30am. Immediately following that there will be a service of remembrance, all at Walker Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Masonic Temple in Freeport, Illinois.
