Obituary

Donald L. Breed, 70, of Freeport, Illinois died Monday, August 6, 2012 in Kalona City, IA. Born June 21, 1942 in Jo Davies County, he was the son of Lyle and Lucille (Shear) Breed. He was a 1961 graduate of Pearl City High School and a stand-out athlete and basketball star. An avid horseman, from trail rides to breaking and training, horses were his passion. This continued from childhood throughout his entire life. He was a 40-year member of the Stephenson County Mounted Patrol and the Northern Illinois Southwest Wisconsin Trail Ride Association. He was also a member of the Freeport Eagles Club, Pearl City Rangers Saddle Club, and Le-Aqua-Na Riders. He loved to dance and be around others who shared his love for horses. On August 20, 1965 he and Judy Bicker were married and remained so for 35 years. They shared a common love for horseback riding. Donnie worked for Honeywell for 36 years. Donnie was a devoted member of the Van Brocklin United Methodist Church, committed to the life of the congregation and spent much of his free time to ensure that the church flourished. He is survived by one brother, Ray Breed and his wife, Linda of Freeport, IL; daughters, Dale Cox and her husband, Brad of Aurora, IL and Connie Breed of Conifer, CO; son, Jim Franz of Glendale, AZ. Don loved spending time with his grandchildren, Dillan, Logan, and Kirsten Cox of Aurora, IL and Emme Breed of Conifer, CO and took advantage of any opportunity to be with them.
Who was Donald Breed? As his children, we can guarantee that his kindness, sincerity, generosity, friendly, giving nature was not only his character, but a heartfelt way of life. How lucky we are to have had him. The experiences he provided us as our father, and example he set, has allowed for us to be who we are today. Thank you Dad. You live in our hearts always.
