Donald E. Isaac, 99, of Freeport, died Saturday, January 21, 2023. Don was born May 24, 1923 in Freeport, to Raymond and Marie (Ilgen) Isaac. He was lifelong member of Grace Episcopal Church. He graduated from Freeport High School in 1941. In 1943, Don enlisted in the Army and served as a Combat Infantryman in Northern France and the Rhineland during World War II. He engaged in active combat experience including the Battle of the Bulge.  He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a T/5 Corporal.  He married Margaret Poole on October 21, 1950 at Grace Episcopal Church of Freeport.

Don worked as an IBM manager at Freeport Motor Casualty Company, then Structo Manufacturing. He then worked as a Vice President at State Bank of Freeport and during that time, earned a diploma from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in 1970. After retirement, he worked part-time for Wagner Office Supply in Freeport.

He was an active member in several community organizations including Rotary, United Way, VFW, and AMVETS.  He loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing and camping at his happy place at Apple Canyon Lake. He enjoyed sports and believed in the Cubs more than they believed in themselves.

Surviving are his wife Margaret (Poole) and children George (Cindy) Isaac of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Charles Isaac of Cumberland, Rhode Island, and Karen (Mark) Moderow of Freeport. Also surviving are grandchildren Adam (Juliet) Moderow of Freeport; Erich Moderow of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Elliott Isaac of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Meredith Isaac of East Lansing, Michigan, Abigail Isaac of Cumberland, Rhode Island; and one great-granddaughter Willow Moderow.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Lou Matter, sister Catherine Haines/Walton, and daughter Susan (Isaac) Maylahn.

Visitation will be at Walker Mortuary from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Grace Episcopal Church, 10 S. Cherry Ave in Freeport. Fr. Brian Prall will officiate. Following a military funeral, he will be buried in Oakland Cemetery.
