Donald E. Lizer, 86, of Freeport, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford.
Born March 4, 1923 in Seward, he was the son of James and Marie (Moth) Lizer. He married Marietta Brydson on June 29, 1947 in Freeport; she passed away December 6, 2002.
He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran.
Donald was employed by Structo Manufacturing Company for 35 years.
His memberships included Embury United Methodist Church, Freeport Moose Lodge, Freeport Fraternal Order of Eagles, and a lifetime membership with the VFW.
He enjoyed gardening, crafting, fishing, baking, dancing, bingo and cards.
Surviving are his children, Diane (Scott) Fleming of Rockton and Gary Lee (Gloria) Lizer of Lena; twin sister, Dorothy Kohl of Pecatonica; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 sister in-laws; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters.
Funeral service will be Monday 10:30 a.m. at Walker Mortuary with Reverend Mike Jones of Stockton Wesley United Methodist Church and Reverend Jonathan Singleton of Embury United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Sunday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
